Mother, paramour get lifelong RI

THRISSUR: A 46-year-old woman from Ernakulam was on Friday sentenced to lifelong rigorous imprisonment for abetting and helping her lover rape her minor daughter in 2015.
Her lover, too, was awarded jail term until death by a court dealing with cases charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act here. Special sessions court judge Muhammed Vasim also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 each on the duo.

The court ordered a sum of Rs 3 lakh be handed over to the survivor from the victim compensation fund.
According to special public prosecutor Pious Mathew, the man, Erumalappady Attayam Veettil Aliyar, 52, of Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district raped the girl, aged 17, and her 12-year-old sister in a lodge here on August 23, 2015.
The crime was carried out in connivance with--and in the presence of--the girls' mother.
The quantum of punishment pronounced on Friday was for raping the elder girl. The trial in the rape of the 12-year-old girl is still on. During the 2015 Onam vacation, the woman, along with her younger daughter and five-year-old son, went to the school where her elder child was studying, and picked her up.
The woman took the children, and went to the city, the prosecution had said.
Aliyar met the woman and the three children in the city, and they checked into a lodge, as planned by the adults. The man later raped the girls at night, and even took their nude photographs.
The incident left the older girl mentally disturbed.She later narrated the incident during a counselling session at her school, leading to the arrest of the woman and her lover.
